LAS VEGAS (KSVN & MyNews3) - The fight against nuclear waste here in Nevada continues today and it may have expanded.

Congresswoman Dina Titus is making some strong allegations about the future of waste in our backyard.

News 3 reporter John Treanor is at the Department of Energy after having talked with the congresswoman.

She has questions about what is coming and how much of it is coming but, it’s the lack of answers she has gotten that she says might be the most telling.

Nuclear power is in its history but is nuclear waste its future?

The conversation and controversy over Nevada’s Area 5 continues and expands.

Congresswoman Titus says with every new question comes two more.

“We started this in March and were still waiting for information and here it is the middle of August,” she said.

The congresswoman's history starts in March when she found out the state agreed to take uranium from Oak Ridge, Tenn., in large secret shipments with no dates or times.

She has reached out to the governor for a timeline but has been unable to get any information from the state.

Its that silence that is deafening and in it more mystery.

Titus said she has been told from NASA that there are plans to dump generators exposed to space's gamma radiation right here and that required a policy change, changing the definition of what waste can be kept.

Does that then open the door for Nevada to become America’s toxic waste dump?

“If this is part of the new mission of the test site they’re going to be shipping other things out here like these NASA generators. So we want to be sure that we ask the questions before the decisions being made change because it’s a lot easier getting something done right than to change something that’s not.
