LAS VEGAS (KSNV News3LV) — Good news for Las Vegas' Neon Museum. The unique space off of Las Vegas Boulevard received a $24,500 federal grant to help create a digital library of drawings, renderings, schematics, photos, postcards, and other items related to the treasured signs of Las Vegas past.

The grant came from the Insitute of Museum and Library Services, and will allow the museum to begin archiving the past.

“With this grant, the Neon Museum is one step closer to showcasing and preserving more artifacts from the artists who decorated the Southern Nevada landscape and captivated millions of visitors over many decades,” Rep. Titus said. “While we’ve come to know and love the museum’s monumental outdoor displays, it’s gratifying to see the commitment to safeguarding the vestiges of the artistic process along with the world-famous collection in the Neon Boneyard. Protecting these items will allow us to tell the Las Vegas story and provide greater insight into our history as a land of aesthetic achievement.”

SELF-GUIDED TOURS

In addition to the exciting news about the grant money, the Neon Museum also announced that interested patrons can begin to take self-guided tours in the North Gallery.

The tours begin September 19, allowing visitors to browse 60 signs between 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The North Gallery tours can be added to the existing Neon Boneyard tour for an additional $10 or as a stand-alone tour for $19.

“We’re pleased to introduce a tour experience that will enable us to welcome many more visitors to the Neon Museum than ever before,” explained Rob McCoy, president and CEO, Neon Museum. “Now, visitors who come to the museum will have another attractive option if guided tours are completely sold out.”
