Rep. Titus Celebrates Passage of INVEST in America Act

Bill Includes $20 Million Secured by Rep. Titus to Support Southern Nevada Infrastructure Projects

Rep. Dina Titus of Nevada’s First Congressional District, a senior member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, released the following statement following her vote to pass the Investing in a New Vision for the Environment and Surface Transportation (INVEST) in America Act. This comprehensive infrastructure package includes a number of critical policy priorities as well as $20 million dollars secured for projects in Southern Nevada championed by Rep. Titus. The INVEST in America Act passed the House with bipartisan support.

Washington, DC – Today Rep. Dina Titus of Nevada’s First Congressional District, a senior member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, released the following statement following her vote to pass the Investing in a New Vision for the Environment and Surface Transportation (INVEST) in America Act. This comprehensive infrastructure package includes a number of critical policy priorities as well as $20 million dollars secured for projects in Southern Nevada championed by Rep. Titus. The INVEST in America Act passed the House with bipartisan support.

“The INVEST in America Act is comprehensive infrastructure legislation focused on rebuilding our nation’s highways, transit systems, railroads, and water systems,” said Rep. Titus “These investments will spur economic development, address the climate crisis, and put people to work in good-paying, union jobs. As a senior member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, I am proud that the INVEST in America Act includes a long list of policies and programs I crafted to benefit the State of Nevada. The provisions I secured in the INVEST in America Act will help build out I-11, support the development of high-speed rail between Las Vegas to Southern California, and reduce traffic on I-15.”

The INVEST in America Act includes Member Designated Projects which provide direct funding to advance local infrastructure projects submitted by Members of Congress. Rep. Titus secured $20 million dollars to advance projects critical to addressing congestion, safety, and transit services while boosting Southern Nevada’s economy, including:

  • $7 million for the City of Las Vegas to fund the Charleston Boulevard underpass roadway project located in the heart of District 1 between S. Commerce Rd. and S. Industrial St. to increase the clearance to allow east-west transit movement and increase safety for all users;
  • $5 million for the Nevada Department of Transportation to fund the Interstate 15 South – Sloan to Blue Diamond Rd. project to reduce congestion along this busy corridor;
  • $5 million for the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada to fund the Maryland Parkway Bus Rapid Transit, Zero Emissions Bus Fleet project which will facilitate travel between the airport, through the Medical District to Downtown;
  • $3 million for the City of Las Vegas to fund the Rancho Drive Complete Streets Improvement project from Mesquite Ave. to Washington Ave.

Titus-led Policy Wins:

  • Provisions in the Projects of National and Regional Significance program to prioritize the completion of Interstate 11 between Las Vegas and Phoenix;
  • An amendment offered by Rep. Titus to enhance the Railroad Rehabilitation and Improvement Financing program to aid the development of high-speed rail projects like Brightline West between Las Vegas and Southern California;
  • Provisions in the core highways funding programs to prioritize projects that assist travelers reaching destinations like Las Vegas;
  • Inclusion of the Horse Transportation Safety Act, bipartisan legislation introduced with Rep. Cohen of Tennessee prohibiting the transport of horses in dangerous double-deck trailers;
  • An amendment offered with Rep. Carter of Louisiana to prohibit the known transport of horses out of the country for slaughter;
  • Inclusion of the Disability Access to Transportation Act, legislation introduced with Rep. Langevin of Rhode Island to improve paratransit services for persons with disabilities;
  • Provisions of the CMAQ Modernization and Environmental Justice Act, authored by Rep. Titus, which incentivizes investment in projects that improve air quality in environmental justice communities by increasing the federal share of such projects. The bill also includes language directing a study on modernizing the CMAQ formula to ensure the program reflects the best available science;
  • Provisions of the Enhancing Child Passenger Safety in Underserved Communities Act, authored by Rep. Titus to dedicate resources for child passenger safety programs in underserved low income and minority communities.
