Representative Dina Titus of Nevada’s First Congressional District announced that the Las Vegas metro area has received a $5,250,000 grant from the Department of Homeland Security under the Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI). The UASI Program assists high-threat, high-density urban areas in their efforts to build and sustain the capabilities necessary to prevent, mitigate, respond to, and recover from acts of terrorism and other disasters.
Washington, D.C. – Today Representative Dina Titus of Nevada’s First Congressional District announced that the Las Vegas metro area has received a $5,250,000 grant from the Department of Homeland Security under the Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI). The UASI Program assists high-threat, high-density urban areas in their efforts to build and sustain the capabilities necessary to prevent, mitigate, respond to, and recover from acts of terrorism and other disasters. “Right now we’re beginning to welcome back visitors from around the globe who travel to Las Vegas for work and play. As a world-class travel destination, Las Vegas faces unique threats and the security of our city must remain a top priority,” said Congresswoman Titus (NV-1), a member of the Homeland Security Committee. “This UASI funding is an important investment in the safety of Las Vegas and will help us protect those who call Southern Nevada home and those who do so just on the weekends.” BACKGROUND: Department of Homeland Security FY 2021 Preparedness Grants DHS Announces Funding Allocations for FY 2021 Preparedness Grants: “Today, Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro N. Mayorkas announced the final allocations for $475 million for seven Fiscal Year 2021 competitive preparedness grant programs. These allocations, together with the almost $1.5 billion in non-competitive grant funding announced earlier this year, total nearly $2 billion in FY 2021 to help prepare our Nation against man-made threats and natural disasters.” |
