Washington, D.C. - Today Representative Dina Titus of Nevada’s First Congressional District, a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, issued the following statement on the situation in Afghanistan. “It is clear today that halting the Taliban’s advance would require the commitment of thousands of troops to Afghanistan, with no timeline for withdrawal. That is something the American public has made clear it does not support,” said Congresswoman Titus (NV-1). “While events in Afghanistan are still unfolding, it is critical we bring our personnel home safely, protect the lives of the allies who assisted our mission, and continue to work with partners to restore peace and security. “The Afghan people deserve to live in safety and the world is watching. I remain steadfastly committed to ensuring the human rights that have been established over the last two decades remain in place, especially for women and girls. “My office stands ready to assist constituents and their loved ones.” |
