Rep. Titus Statement On Supreme Court Ruling On Eviction Moratorium

“Earlier this month President Biden acted to protect countless families from facing homelessness by extending the moratorium on evictions. The unconscionable and reckless decision by the Supreme Court last night to end the moratorium at a time when the delta variant is surging and families are still vulnerable is appalling."

Las Vegas, NV - Today Representative Dina Titus of Nevada’s First Congressional District issued the following statement after the Supreme Court issue a ruling blocking the Biden Administration from enforcing the CDC’s temporary moratorium on evictions:

“Earlier this month President Biden acted to protect countless families from facing homelessness by extending the moratorium on evictions. The unconscionable and reckless decision by the Supreme Court last night to end the moratorium at a time when the delta variant is surging and families are still vulnerable is appalling.

“Days before the expiration of the July 31st moratorium, I wrote to Congressional leadership urging swift action to extend the moratorium. My stance hasn’t changed; we need to protect millions of Americans at risk of homelessness as COVID spreads. I will continue to push for Congressional action to prevent a wave of evictions which could exacerbate the spread of COVID.

“Las Vegas was hit harder than any other metropolitan area in the country during this pandemic. Thankfully, at the federal level President Biden and Congressional Democrats have secured almost $70 million in rental assistance for Southern Nevada. I continue to work with state and local entities to expedite the distribution of these funds.”
