Washington, D.C. - Today Congresswoman Dina Titus of Nevada’s First Congressional District announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services will award the Sunrise Children’s Foundation $4,129,760 for Head Start projects. Sunrise Children’s Foundation’s Early Head Start program offers child development services to vulnerable, low-income, and underserved populations. The HHS funds from the Administration for Children and Families will help serve 270 infants and toddlers from at-risk communities in Southern Nevada. “Early childhood education is critical to a child’s development and has a lifelong impact. Research has shown 90% of a child’s brain development occurs before the age of five. That’s why I’ve pushed for investments in Head Start programs which provide more families access to childcare, establish a safe environment for development, and prepare Nevada children for success,” said Congresswoman Dina Titus. “These resources will allow Sunrise Children Foundation to continue providing valuable support to underserved children in Southern Nevada. I voted to secure this essential funding for District One because socio-economic status should not be a barrier to success and I will continue fighting to see that early child education remains a priority. Research confirms that the earlier children start school, the better they do, the longer they stay, and the more likely they are to get ahead in life.” |
