Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Dina Titus (NV-01), member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, issued the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives passed her Protecting Semiconductor Supply Chain Materials from Authoritarians Act in a bipartisan vote of 414-9.
“Today the House delivered essential legislation which ensures the United States is doing everything it can to insulate critical supply chains from current and future disruptions that could gravely impact our economy and everyday lives,” said Rep. Titus. “Semiconductors are vital for the smooth operation of businesses across Las Vegas, including the gaming industry which uses chips in slot machines. They are also vital for countless items we take for granted in daily life, like medical devices, cell phones, and cars. The COVID-19 pandemic placed a massive strain on the global semiconductor supply chain network, and these tensions have been further exacerbated by Putin’s unlawful and unprovoked invasion of Ukraine.”
“Thank you to my colleagues for their support, and to Representatives Meijer and Meeks for co-sponsoring this important bill.”
Background The Protecting Semiconductor Supply Chain Materials from Authoritarians Act amends the Ukraine Freedom Support Act of 2014 to establish a working group for reporting on the semiconductor supply chain disruptions caused by Russia’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine; develop strategies for bolstering supplies of critical elements, compounds, and products; and monitor potential threats to the semiconductor supply chains.
