LAS VEGAS, NEVADA – Today, Congresswoman Dina Titus (NV-01) joined transportation advocates to celebrate the start of Bike Month and highlight federal funds she secured through Community Project Funding requests and the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.
“I was proud to vote for the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law which is bringing critical resources to our region,” said Rep. Titus. “The federal funding I secured for electric buses for the Maryland BRT project will result in more than 60 megatons of reduced CO2 emissions annually providing considerable public health benefits to the region. Additionally, the $142,500 I obtained in the Appropriations bill for the Bike Share Expansion program will allow new neighborhoods to access the program and connect both residents and tourists to more than 1,000 miles of bicycle routes, lanes, and shared-use paths. I want to congratulate RTC and Southern Nevada Bicycle Coalition again for their incredible work, and I look forward to continuing our partnership.”
“Cycling safety and education is a critical part of how the RTC is helping to build a stronger, more accessible Southern Nevada,” said M.J. Maynard, RTC Chief Executive Officer. “As an advocate for sustainable mobility options, I encourage the community to participate in Bike Month to support bicycle safety and transportation equity for all road users.”
“I am excited to be celebrating National Bike Month with Congresswoman Dina Titus and the RTC. The cycling community is constantly growing and, it’s important to bring bike safety awareness to the forefront. That's why we launched our ‘Ride Safe: Know Before You Go’ education campaign geared to remind new and existing riders easy ways to protect themselves before they go out on the roadway,” said Keely Brooks, Southern Nevada Bicycle Coalition. “As an active cyclist myself, I know that pedestrians and cyclists are vulnerable road users, and we all deserve to feel safe when riding.”
Background
This year, Rep. Titus secured federal funds for the RTC Bike Share Expansion project that will add two additional bike stations to the current network in downtown Las Vegas and approximately 60 bicycles, including electric bikes, to the fleet. The RTC Bike Share program is hugely popular with more than 186,000 trips taken, and its use has increased to historic levels during the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, she is a champion of the Maryland Parkway Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project, securing $2 million in funding for two zero emission vehicles. The project will run through a key corridor in NV-01 and be a fully electric BRT line by 2025.
