Washington, DC – Today Congresswoman Dina Titus (NV-01) issued the following statement after the U.S. Senate confirmed former Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Director Bradley Crowell to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC):

“I congratulate Commissioner Crowell on his successful career serving Nevada and protecting the environmental and conservation interests of the Silver State. This includes a well-established track record of advancing priorities for clean air and water, wildfire risk reduction, drought resistance, and protecting the environment from harmful pollutants. I look forward to our continued partnership safeguarding the environment from nuclear waste, including protecting Nevadans from having nuclear waste storage forced upon them at Yucca Mountain.

“I know he will be fair in his assessments and make decisions based on science and not politics.”

The NRC is the independent federal agency that oversees the safe use of radioactive materials and, according to the Nuclear Waste Policy Act of 1982, is tasked with serving as the independent regulator for authorizing construction and granting licenses to operate the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste repository in Nevada.
