WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Dina Titus (NV-01) issued the following statement after voting yes on H.J.Res 100 to avoid a potential rail shutdown, as well as voting in favor of an amendment to provide rail workers with seven days of paid sick leave: “Unions are the backbone of this country, including our brothers and sisters on the railroads. They move supplies that are necessary for our everyday lives and they deserve dignity, respect, and, above all, assurances for their health and safety. “As railroads have become more profitable, over 100,000 of their workers continue to keep our nation’s freight moving without the assurance of paid sick leave. “Today I voted in favor of providing rail workers with this basic right, in addition to voting yes on H.J.Res 100, the agreement negotiated between organized labor leaders and rail carrier management in September, to avoid a catastrophic national rail shutdown that would devastate our economy and hurt millions of families. “I will continue to defend rail workers, especially in the face of the railroads’ Wall Street approach, in order to ensure they receive the benefits they deserve.” ### |
