Washington, DC – Today Kazakhstan Caucus Co-Chairs Congresswoman Dina Titus (NV-01) and Congressman Steve Chabot (R-OH) were joined by Caucus member Congressman Tom Suozzi (D-NY) in releasing the following statement concerning the recent Presidential Elections in Kazakhstan: “As strong supporters of the U.S.-Kazakhstan relationship, the Congressional Kazakhstan Caucus commends the progress exhibited by the most recent Presidential elections in Kazakhstan which were run in a peaceful and efficient manner. There is, however, much work to do. This election lacked real political competition, and constraints on freedom of speech and assembly continue to inhibit the ability of Kazakh citizens to have their voices heard. In the lead up to the 2023 Parliamentary elections, we urge President Tokayev to follow through with the constitutional reforms he has announced to ensure the Kazakh people are afforded true representation. The United States values our strategic, economic, and security partnerships with Kazakhstan and looks forward to strengthening our bilateral relationship in the months ahead.” ### |
