Washington, DC – After being nominated by Congresswoman Dina Titus (NV-01), the Vegas Strong Resiliency Center, managed by the Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada, has been selected to receive the Congressional Crime Survivors and Justice Caucus Allied Professional Award, Rep. Titus’s office announced.
The Vegas Strong Resiliency Center (VSRC) was founded in 2017 after the mass shooting at the Route 91 Harvest Festival, the deadliest in modern U.S. history, as a resource and referral center for residents, visitors, and responders affected by the tragic events. VSRC provides services, including victim advocacy and support, counseling, and technical assistance with applying for online services like FBI Victim Assistance. The Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada has managed VSRC since 2019.
“In the aftermath of the tragic 1 October shooting, the Vegas Strong Resiliency Center brought local non-profits, law enforcement, and government agencies together to support those impacted by this devastating event, a model now used across the country. With the help of VSRC and the Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada under the leadership of Barbara Buckley, our communities persevered through unimaginable tragedy. I was proud to nominate the Vegas Strong Resiliency Center for the Congressional Crime Survivors and Justice Caucus Allied Professional Award because, six years later, our community is still resilient and always Vegas Strong.” said Rep. Titus.
“It is an honor to receive this award for the comprehensive array of services we have developed to assist survivors of violent crime. We extend our sincere thanks to Congresswoman Titus for the nomination and for all she does to ensure that comprehensive services for survivors are expanded in our state,” said Barbara Buckley, Executive Director of Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada, which has managed the Vegas Strong Resiliency Center since 2019. “The Vegas Strong Resiliency Center is successful because of the ongoing partnership of Clark County, the State of Nevada, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada.”
“We are deeply honored by Congresswoman Titus’s nomination of the Vegas Strong Resiliency Center,” said Tennille Pereira, Director of the Vegas Strong Resiliency Center. “We appreciate all of the support she has given us over the years. We are honored to do this work and elevate the voices of our survivors to impact change and promote healing and resiliency.”
The Center’s partnering agencies include Clark County Social Services, Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada, Nevada Victims of Crime Program, Nevada Division of Child and Family Services, Clark County Department of Family Services, Southern Nevada Adult Mental Health Services, and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Victims Services Division.
The Congressional Crime Survivors and Justice Caucus’s Allied Professional Award honors individuals or organizations who exhibit leadership, creativity, and commitment in linking allied professions to improve the plight of crime victims and survivors.
Congresswoman Titus will present Tennille Pereira, Director of the Vegas Strong Resiliency Center, with the award on April 26th at 10:00 AM in Washington, D.C. at an event hosted by the Congressional Crime Survivors and Justice Caucus, honoring the Center and five other award winners from across the country.
