Rep. Dina Titus Statement on Transfer of Cluster Munitions to Ukraine

Washington, DC – Today Congresswoman Dina Titus (NV-01), a senior member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the Unexploded Ordinance (UXO)/Demining Caucus, issued the following statement on the Biden Administration’s plan to provide cluster munitions to Ukraine:

"By steadfastly supporting Ukraine, the United States is standing not only for Ukrainian victory but American values. While I strongly support President Biden’s leadership in helping Ukraine win this war, like so many of our NATO allies I oppose the transfer and use of cluster munitions. The dangers these indiscriminate weapons pose to civilians are well-documented and reports indicate that their use by Russia has caused hundreds of civilian casualties.

“The United States should instead help ensure that Ukraine has the tanks, artillery rounds, and anti-aircraft missiles needed to continue its counteroffensive without endangering Ukrainian civilians, including children, for years after the war has ended. Vladimir Putin’s use of cluster munitions cannot justify our own.”
