Washington, D.C. – Today Congresswoman Dina Titus (NV-01) released the following statement after voting to support a continuing resolution and keep the government open.
“Republican leadership in the House had 45 days to reach a compromise with their Democratic colleagues in Congress to avoid a government shutdown,” said Rep. Titus. “After spending three weeks in chaos as House Republicans failed repeatedly to elect a leader, Speaker Johnson has brought multiple funding bills up for a vote that have no chance of passing the Democratic majority in the Senate or being signed into law by President Biden. “Although this continuing resolution is far from perfect, a government shutdown would have been devastating for our servicemembers, seniors, and national security. It would negatively impact Nevada by risking SNAP benefits for nearly half a million people, forcing over 15,000 active duty and reserve personal in the armed forces to work without pay, and cause delays and safety concerns for the nearly 53,000 people who fly through Nevada every day by affecting staffing for the Transportation Security Agency (TSA) and air traffic control. “In a divided government, the only path forward is to come together at the negotiating table to find a long-term solution. It is time for Republicans to put partisan politics aside and work across the aisle to lower costs, support our allies around the world, and keep our government running.” |
