Washington, DC – Today Congresswoman Dina Titus (NV-01), a senior member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, released the following statement after the announcement of a U.S.-brokered deal between Israel and Hamas to free dozens of hostages in Gaza in exchange for a pause in fighting.

“Since the horrific terror attacks on October 7th, the United States has been working with our partners in the Middle East to broker a deal between Israel and Hamas,” said Rep. Titus. “I am happy to see the negotiated release of hostages and a temporary pause in fighting that will allow an opportunity for much needed humanitarian assistance and medical treatment to be provided to civilians in Gaza.

“I stand with Israel as it continues its efforts to root out Hamas and believe that the United States is capable of supporting Israel’s defense while also urging the protection of innocent Palestinians. These actions are not mutually exclusive, and we must continue to do both. This deal cannot, however, become a permanent solution until all hostages are released and the threat from Hamas is neutralized. During this negotiated pause, I urge Prime Minister Netanyahu and the IDF to ensure that any resumption of hostilities is part of a long-term strategy to permanently eliminate Hamas while working towards lasting stability in the region.”
