Washington, DC – Today Congresswoman Dina Titus (NV-01) announced two federal grants for Nevada’s First District from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) totaling $9.8 Million. Both grants are funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law which Congresswoman Titus played a critical role in crafting as a senior Member of the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee.
“Thanks to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law which we passed last Congress, Southern Nevada is building safer and more equitable transportation systems,” said Rep. Titus. “It is critical to continue upgrading and improving our roadways and walkways for drivers and pedestrians. I will keep working in Congress to secure funding for projects that help safely move all travelers around the Valley.” Representative Titus serves as a Senior Member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, including as the Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Economic Development, Public Buildings and Emergency Management. SAFEConnect - $8.3 Million The City of Las Vegas will receive $8.3 million through the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) program for its Safe Actions Fostering Equitable Connectedness (SAFEConnect) projects in East Las Vegas. These proven safety countermeasures will be concentrated within East Las Vegas which is one of the most underserved and disinvested areas of the city. They will focus on deploying low-cost, high-impact strategies with a particular emphasis on the most vulnerable communities. These projects focus on proposals which include pedestrian crossings and crosswalks, pedestrian hybrid beacons, pedestrian refuge islands, traffic calming, lighting and shade upgrades, and traffic signal improvements. Southern Nevada Regional Action Plan Supplement - $1.5 Million The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) will receive $1.5 million in SS4A funding to update its existing regional safety action plan to include a Design Criteria Manual that will guide the application of the latest safety principles and practices into roadway projects for the region. Background on SS4A The Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) program provides financial support for planning, infrastructure and behavioral and operational initiatives to prevent death and serious injury on roads and streets involving all roadway users, including pedestrians, bicyclists, public transportation users and operators, personal conveyance, micro mobility users, motorists, and commercial vehicle operators. The SS4A program supports the development of comprehensive safety action plans that identify the most significant roadway safety concerns in a community and the implementation of projects and strategies to address roadway safety issues. The SS4A program provides funding for two types of grants: Planning and Demonstration Grants and Implementation Grants. |
