Washington, DC – Congresswoman Dina Titus (NV-01) released the following statement on the three-year anniversary of the violent insurrection at the U.S. Capitol building on January 6, 2021.
“Three years ago, Donald Trump encouraged his supporters to march to the U.S. Capitol to stop the certification of a free and fair election,” said Rep. Titus. “Trump lost the 2020 election and spent months knowingly lying to supporters in a desperate attempt to cling to power. Extreme rhetoric in his speech in front of the White House on the morning of January 6 was a clear and direct call to action to stop the peaceful transition of power. That call was answered by thousands of Trump supporters who proceeded to violently storm the Capitol building in an act of domestic terrorism. The resulting insurrection led to five deaths and hundreds of injuries for the brave police officers who stood up to the mob. “We have a duty to protect the electoral system and defend our democracy against the threats of political violence and MAGA extremism. All perpetrators of this violent attack must continue to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. January 6 will live on as one of the darkest days in the history of our country and can never be allowed to happen again.” |
