WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today Congresswoman Dina Titus (NV-01), member of the House Homeland Security Committee, released the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives voted to impeach Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

“Today is a sad day for our nation as House Republicans voted to impeach Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas without any legitimate evidence or due process,” said Rep. Dina Titus. “Extreme conservative members have thrown out one hundred fifty years of precedent, disregarded constitutional scholars from across the political spectrum, and ignored warnings from Senate Republicans who have made it clear they will not vote to remove Secretary Mayorkas. Leading one of the least productive Congresses of all time, Republicans have failed spectacularly. This sham impeachment is nothing more than a distraction from those legislative failures.

“There have been no attempts at bipartisan engagement from House Republicans to address border security, only political stunts. The Southern Border requires immediate and serious attention to protect national security; instead House Republicans have wasted time with this pointless sham impeachment which achieves nothing.”
