Las Vegas, NV – Today Congresswoman Dina Titus (NV-01) joined the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and local leaders for a press conference to mark the receipt of federal funding for the Maryland Parkway Bus Rapid Transit project which she secured.

“The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law which I championed in the House is continuing to deliver for Southern Nevada,” said Rep. Dina Titus. “The $150 million secured for improvements to the Maryland Parkway transit system will ensure Las Vegas residents have better options while traveling among Harry Reid International Airport, UNLV, and other important areas around the city. Buses, bikes, cars, and pedestrians will all experience safer conditions thanks to wider sidewalks, enhanced transit shelters, improved lighting, and better roadways.”

“We are incredibly appreciative to our federal delegation in helping us to secure this FTA grant that will help transform Maryland Parkway for the benefit of everyone in the region,” said M.J. Maynard, RTC CEO. “As a vital corridor for the Las Vegas Valley, this project extends more than 13 miles and includes many major destinations and employment centers including the Harry Reid International Airport, UNLV, Boulevard Mall, Sunrise Hospital, and Las Vegas Medical District better connecting residents to jobs, education, medical services, shopping and neighborhood services.”

Background

Maryland Parkway extends from the South Strip Transit Terminal to the Las Vegas Medical District. The corridor has approximately 90,000 residents, provides 80,000 jobs, and carries approximately 9,000 transit riders and 35,000 vehicles daily.

This project expands transit service along Maryland Parkway Bus Route 109, enhances transit shelters and shared bus-bike lanes, creates wider sidewalks, and improves lighting and landscaping. This funding comes from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law which Rep. Titus championed in the House.

Rep. Titus announced this funding at a press event held at the UNLV Transit Center on Monday, April 1st, 2024, and was joined by Rep. Steven Horsford, UNLV President Keith Whitfield, RTC CEO M.J. Maynard, FTA Acting Administrator Veronica Vanterpool, and RTC Board Members including Chairman & Clark County Commissioner Justin Jones, Commissioner Tick Segerblom, and Councilman Brian Knudsen.

The Maryland Parkway Bus Rapid Transit project is expected to begin by the end of summer 2024 and be completed in 2026.
