Washington, D.C. – Today Congresswoman Dina Titus (NV-01), senior member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, released the following statement after the House passage of H.R. 7888, the Reforming Intelligence and Securing America Act:
“I supported the reauthorization of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) because we must uphold our oath to protect national and homeland security,” said Rep. Dina Titus. “FISA is a critical tool for the U.S. intelligence community to track threats to Americans including terrorism, drug and human trafficking, foreign espionage, data security, infrastructure integrity, and election interference. Today’s reauthorization maintains an essential resource for our intelligence agencies, diplomats, and servicemembers. It also includes strong new protective guardrails which will ensure privacy and safety rights of American citizens. “In recent years, the international landscape of threats to our security has constantly evolved and it would be irresponsible to prevent U.S. intelligence from operating at its full capacity. This reauthorization is the most robust reform FISA has ever seen to keep civilians safe from threats without sacrificing constitutional protections.” |
