Las Vegas, NV – Today Congresswoman Dina Titus (NV-01) released the following statement after securing $156 million from the Inflation Reduction Act for the Nevada Clean Energy Fund (NCEF) to make solar energy more accessible to low-income and disadvantaged communities.
“The Inflation Reduction Act, which I championed in the House, is continuing to make historic investments in clean energy across the country,” said Rep. Dina Titus. “Thanks to this $156 million grant from the EPA, the Nevada Clean Energy Fund will be able to expand access to affordable and reliable solar energy for low-income families. Not all communities are impacted equally by the climate crisis, with disadvantaged communities often missing out on access to programs to lower energy costs, create good paying jobs, and improve environmental conditions and health outcomes.” Background Today, the EPA selected 60 applicants to receive funding under the $7 billion Solar for All grant competition for states, territories, Tribal governments, municipalities, and nonprofits. These 60 selected applicants will develop long-lasting programs that enable low-income and disadvantaged communities to deploy and benefit from distributed residential solar. Last year, Rep. Titus sent a letter to the Environment Protection Agency’s (EPA) with other members of the Nevada Congressional delegation supporting Nevada Clean Energy Fund (NCEF)’s application to the EPA Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund (GGRF) Solar for All program. NCEF’s Nevada Solar for All (NSFA) program will expand access to affordable, resilient, and clean solar energy for low-income and disadvantaged communities in Nevada. Nevada SFA (NSFA) will enable low-income and disadvantaged communities in Nevada to deploy and benefit from solar energy by providing financial and technical assistance, transforming the Nevada solar market into a vibrant and self-sustaining industry. NSFA will administer statewide financial assistance programs for single-family homeowners, affordable housing properties, and residential-serving community solar that enable equitable access to solar in Nevada. The program will leverage its diverse network of partners across the state to meaningfully involve communities in program design and conduct targeted outreach, education, technical assistance, and workforce development in rural, urban, suburban, Tribal, and persistent poverty communities. |
