Washington, D.C.— Today Congresswoman Dina Titus (NV-01), a senior member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, issued the following statement regarding the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2025: “This year’s National Defense Authorization Act was reported out of the House Armed Services Committee with near-unanimous support. This effort was the result of months-long bipartisan discussions which included a 19.5% pay increase for junior enlisted service members, a 4.5% pay increase for all other service members, $1.15 billion for housing improvements, $17.5 billion for military construction projects, and $16.7 billion for science and technology programs to ensure that the U.S. is at the forefront of defense innovation. This is the bill I wanted to support. Instead of maintaining this bipartisan commitment to our armed forces and their families, however, House Republicans opted to push their extreme agenda to prohibit reproductive health care for our brave service members. House Republicans’ decision to make critical national security legislation a political cudgel in their culture wars fails to put our soldiers, sailors, and airmen first. For that reason, I cannot support the bill in its current form, but I will work with my colleagues to eliminate harmful provisions during future negotiations between the House and Senate.” ### |
