Norton, Titus Make Friendly Wager Ahead of Caps-Golden Knights Stanley Cup Matchup

The Capitals have had a number of years of great success, but as team after team has learned this season, when it comes to Las Vegas, the house always wins.

Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) and Congresswoman Dina Titus (D-NV) today agreed to a friendly wager on the upcoming Stanley Cup Finals matchup between the Washington Capitals and Las Vegas Golden Knights.  If the Capitals prevail, Titus and her staff will wear D.C. statehood t-shirts and provide Norton with a gift basket of local Las Vegas goodies.  If the Golden Knights hoist the cup, Norton and her staff will have a comparable show of opposition to the proposed Yucca Mountain nuclear waste repository outside Las Vegas and provide a gift basket of local D.C. goodies.

“Unfortunately, D.C. and Las Vegas both know what it is like to have the federal government trample on you, here in D.C. by interfering with local laws and in Nevada by imposing nuclear waste in the state, both without local consent,” Norton said.  “I thank Dina for already being a cosponsor of our D.C. statehood bill.  Count on D.C. to be with Las Vegas against dumping nuclear waste on you, even if we part company and win the Stanley Cup.  Get ready to wear that shirt, Dina!”

“The Capitals have had a number of years of great success, but as team after team has learned this season, when it comes to Las Vegas, the house always wins,” Titus said. “In just our inaugural season, the Las Vegas Golden Knights have defied expectations game after game. After the Golden Knights raise the Stanley Cup, I’m looking forward to enjoying some of the best of what our Nation’s Capital has to offer.”
