Today Rep. Dina Titus of Nevada’s First Congressional District announced that the Department of Justice will award the state a grant to help identify, test, and track all sexual assault kits that have been stored as evidence throughout the state.

The Nevada Office of the Attorney General will receive $523,268 to implement a statewide tracking system for integrating and enhancing the current process in the state. The grant will allow the state to partner with Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the Reno Police Department, and their respective forensic laboratories to coordinate, streamline, and collect evidence and data from law enforcement.

“With this grant, law enforcement agencies will have more tools to track and process sexual assault kits throughout the state,” Rep. Titus said. “I have been a longtime advocate for strengthening our state’s efforts to end sexual violence and believe that it is a moral obligation to do whatever we can to help bring justice to crime victims.”
