Las Vegas – Today Rep. Dina Titus of Nevada’s First Congressional District celebrated the designation of Gold Butte National Monument by President Obama. Rep. Titus has sponsored legislation in Congress and championed greater protections at Gold Butte for more than a decade.

“Gold Butte’s story is one of perseverance and passion,” Rep. Titus said.  “Since the effort to protect Gold Butte began in 1998, a network of a few dozen Nevadans has turned into a powerful coalition dedicated to protecting the region’s ancient petroglyphs, colorful geology, iconic wildlife, and unique flora.  President Obama heard our cry and took the necessary action to save this natural treasure. I am relieved that our glorious piece of the Grand Canyon now has the protection it needs and deserves so its magnificent resources can be preserved for generations to come.”
