Las Vegas, NV – Today Representative Dina Titus of Nevada’s First Congressional District released the following statement in response to announced layoffs and schools closures due to the coronavirus pandemic:

“Las Vegas is a thriving city because of the workers who power it,” said Congresswoman Titus (NV-1). “So many of them are now facing uncertain times and worried about keeping food on the table. As our nation wages battle against this pandemic, we must ensure those hit the hardest get the most help. Congress has taken initial action to put families first and I will make it my mission to fight for a recovery plan that prioritizes those who truly need it the most.

“The Strip will not be the same for now, but it will come back stronger. This will get worse before it gets better, but it will get better. Our city is a resilient one and soon we will prove that once again.

“I am grateful for Governor Sisolak’s response to this crisis. Closing our schools was not an easy decision, but it is the right one.

“We can help stop the spread of this disease – and the economic consequences of it – by taking mindful measures. That means following CDC guidelines and washing hands frequently, disinfecting surfaces, and staying home if you are not feeling well.”
