Rep. Titus co-sponsored amendments to help block funding to revive Yucca Mountain. July 19,2017 Today Rep. Dina Titus of Nevada’s First Congressional District issued the following statement on an amendment she co-sponsored with Reps. Ruben Kihuen and Jacky Rosen to block funding for and permanently close the unworkable Yucca Mountain Project. Provisions to fund Yucca Mountain are currently included in the Defense, Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, Legislative Branch, and Energy and Water Development National Security Appropriations Act. “If Republicans won’t listen to us they should listen to the warning signs from Mother Nature and Human Nature. The earthquake 30 miles south of Yucca Mountain this week and the tunnel collapse at the Hanford Site highlight the dangers of this unworkable and unsafe project that Trump, Perry, and the GOP want to shove down our throats. This amendment recognizes those factors and the voices of the majority of Nevadans who never have and never will consent to this dangerous project.” |
