Las Vegas—Today Rep. Dina Titus of Nevada’s First Congressional District announced a $2,049,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Justice to the Nevada Department of Administration’s Victims of Crime Program.

The award will help victims or their dependents in Nevada pay for medical bills, funeral costs, counseling, and other services in FY2017. The grant is predominantly funded by penalties, fines, and restitution imposed on criminals and comes from the DOJ’s Crime Victims Fund. State officials from the Department of Administration annually apply for the grant. The money helped provide services to about 2,500 Nevadans in the past year.

“Americans are victims of more than 20 million crimes each year and often face unnecessary and unfortunate challenges as a result,” Rep. Titus said. “This grant provides vital assistance and helps foster a less stressful environment for victims and their families as they recover.”
