July 25, 2014 Today Congresswoman Dina Titus from Nevada’s First District announced the Department of Homeland Security will award federal grant funds to the State of Nevada, Las Vegas, and Temple Sinai in Las Vegas. Nevada will receive $3.7 million as part of the FY 2014 State Homeland Security Funding Program. Las Vegas will receive $1 million as part of previously announced Urban Area Security Initiative Funding. Temple Sinai of Las Vegas will receive $75,000 as part of the Urban Areas Security Initiative Nonprofit Security Grant Program. “As a former Member of the House Homeland Security Committee, I know how important these grants are to helping communities prevent, protect against, mitigate, and respond to acts of terrorism or natural disasters,” said Titus. “I successfully pressed the Department of Homeland Security to reverse their misguided decision to omit Las Vegas from the Urban Areas Security Imitative and will continue to advocate for reinstating the full funding for our metropolitan area.” The State Homeland Security Program and the Urban Areas Security Initiative provide funding to support the implementation of State homeland security strategies to address identified planning, organization, equipment, training, and exercise needs to prevent, protect against, mitigate, respond to, and recover from acts of terrorism and other catastrophic events.
