Today Rep. Dina Titus of Nevada’s First Congressional District sent a letter to the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada calling on the three regulators to revise the new rates and charges approved for net metering customers on Dec. 22, 2015.

Titus, who helped create Nevada’s net metering laws in 1997, said in the letter that she has heard from hundreds of constituents who are adversely affected by the PUC decision because they either work in the rooftop solar industry or participate in the state’s net metering program with rooftop solar panels.

“I led the effort to establish net metering laws while serving in the Nevada State Senate. That important work fostered the growth of an industry that has diversified our state’s economy, created thousands of good-paying jobs, and provided local residents with the opportunity to utilize our natural resources to improve the environment while saving money,” Rep. Titus said. “It is critical that those Nevadans who have made the investment in rooftop solar not have the rug pulled out from under them. The sunniest state in the nation should not cast a shadow over the solar industry.”

The PUC will meet Monday to consider whether it will reconsider its net metering decision. Rep. Titus encourages them to make reasonable changes that better protect all stakeholders. Read the attached letter to the PUC.
