Washington, D.C. - Today Congresswoman Dina Titus voted in opposition to H.J.Res. 72, a political stunt coordinated by House Republicans in an attempt to provide their caucus political cover following their damaging shutdown of the government.
The so called “Honoring our Promise to America’s Veterans Act,” which failed today on the House Floor, would have actually provided $6.2 billion less than the amount in the bipartisan Veterans Appropriations bill that passed the House earlier this year. Additionally, this Republican sham would have eliminated all funding for the National Cemetery Administration and would have failed to fund grant programs utilized by the Nevada State Veterans Home and the Boulder City Veterans Cemetery.
“As Ranking Member of the Disability Assistance and Memorial Affairs Subcommittee of the House Veterans Affairs Committee, I am working every day to ensure that our nation’s heroes are receiving the care and benefits they have earned and deserve,” said Titus. “To use our nation’s heroes and their families as political pawns is just shameful. Congress should be focused on ending the shutdown, not wasting valuable time and resources on Republican’s political theater.”
