Congresswoman Dina Titus of Nevada’s First Congressional District released the following statement today in opposition to H.R. 3009, the “Enforce the Law for Sanctuary Cities Act” which withholds critical federal criminal justice funding from local governments that have adopted policies limiting when local law enforcement officers may collect information about a person’s immigration status.

“In yet another attack on the immigrant community, House Republicans are once again failing to address the need for Comprehensive Immigration Reform. Of course we need to assist ICE in removing dangerous criminals from our communities, but preventing state and local law enforcement agencies from accessing federal funding is counterproductive and would be detrimental to public safety. I strongly oppose this legislation and Republicans’ efforts to demonize immigrant communities.”
