The waiver jeopardizes our security and sidesteps laws. August 1, 2017 Las Vegas – Today Rep. Dina Titus of Nevada’s First Congressional District released the following statement after the Department of Homeland Security issued an environmental waiver to expedite border wall construction near San Diego and bypass laws created to protect communities. "This is just another example of Trump thinking the rules do not apply to his administration. The Trump Administration thinks that big, expensive border walls will make us safer. What it doesn’t understand is that ignoring vital environmental protections will jeopardize the health of workers, communities, and ecosystems. The National Environmental Policy Act, the Endangered Species Act, the Clean Water Act, the Safe Drinking Water Act, and the Solid Waste Disposal Act, among dozens of others targeted by these waivers, are the first line of defense to protect our planet. Flouting these statutes ignores the wellbeing of Americans and the well documented need for those laws.” |
