Washington, D.C. – Today Rep. Dina Titus of Nevada’s First Congressional District released the following statement on the one-year anniversary of the Gold Butte National Monument designation by President Obama.

“One year ago we celebrated the hard work of many local advocates and the rich heritage of Southern Nevada when President Obama designated Gold Butte National Monument. With the advent of the Trump Administration, we are back on the front lines fighting to protect the cultural and natural resources that are now enveloped by the monument’s borders. Zinke’s straw-man arguments about water are addressed within the monument proclamation. In addition, the Antiquities Act is clear: Presidents can create monuments but cannot take them away. Moving forward, I will continue to advocate for Gold Butte and support all efforts to ensure that the Trump Administration doesn’t hack away at Nevada’s piece of the Grand Canyon. An attack on one monument is an attack on all monuments.”
