The bill is a red herring that relies on the myth of trickle-down economics. Today Rep. Dina Titus of Nevada’s First Congressional District released the following statement on the House GOP’s tax proposal. “This is a red herring tax plan that relies on the myth of trickle-down economics in order to give the nation’s top earners a handout. The tax brackets look reasonable at first glance, but the minutiae of the bill tell a different story. As we await a score from the Congressional Budget Office, I cannot see how working families will save money if we are removing the personal exemption and the ability to write off medical costs while cutting the sales-tax deduction that saves Nevada residents hundreds of millions annually. As for how we will pay for the cuts outlined in the 429-page tax bill, look no further than the budget resolution passed by Republicans last week that approves a $1.5 trillion increase in the deficit over the next decade. Working families in my district must not be fooled by this bill. Republicans want them to pay for their friends’ tax breaks.” |
