Rep. Titus said that Republicans leading the charge for Yucca should tell the truth about fiscal and environmental costs of Yucca Mountain, an unworkable project. September 25, 2017 Today Rep. Dina Titus of Nevada’s First Congressional District released the following statement after the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee scheduled a hearing for September 26 to “Examine America’s Nuclear Waste Management and Storage.” “Instead of spewing alt-science and beating the drum for Yucca Mountain, the GOP should tell the American people the truth: NRC licensing, legal battles, and construction will waste billions from the U.S. Treasury. If the Trump Administration is so concerned about cutting costs and properly storing nuclear waste, it should forget about Yucca Mountain and focus instead on a consent-based siting process like what is required in my bill. We don’t have the time or money to fool with this deplorable anti-Nevada project any longer.” |
