Washington, D.C. – Today Rep. Dina Titus of Nevada’s First Congressional District released the following statement after Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke announced a review of federal and state sage grouse plans.

“This review ignores the good-faith efforts over a long period by Nevada stakeholders – ranchers, environmental groups, mining companies, and government entities – to implement a management plan that prioritizes conservation and economic development. I urge Secretary Zinke to consider Nevada’s right as a state to do what’s best for its own future.”

The order outlines several actions that the Bureau of Land Management will conduct.

The BLM will develop a memoranda of understanding with states and others regarding implementation of the 2015 BLM and Forest Service land use plans. They will consider whether the plans complement state efforts and review if plans should be modified or rescinded.

Current plans developed by Nevada and other western states are the product of long and careful coordination. The secretary should not prioritize redoing years of successful work.

The secretary will receive a report on the review and future options in 60 days.
