Titus Statement on Trump Decertifying Iran Deal

October 13, 2017
Trump is mostly alone in his thinking on decertification, and that is a dangerous thing

Today Rep. Dina Titus of Nevada’s First Congressional District released the following statement after President Donald Trump announced that he would not certify the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.

“Trump is mostly alone in his thinking on decertification, and that is a dangerous thing. Mattis, Tillerson, McMaster, and many Republicans in the House understand the consequences of upending the JCPOA. Our European allies do too. Decertification does not entirely do away with the deal, but it puts us on a dangerous path toward doing so. While the deal isn’t perfect, Iran can resume production of highly enriched uranium if we withdraw altogether. As a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, I believe the best course of action for our nation is ensuring that we meet our current obligations and hold Iran accountable. Reneging on this deal will do more harm than good.”
