Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Dina Titus of Nevada’s First District released the following statement today in response to the Department of Veterans Affairs’ announcement to expedite compensation claim decisions for veterans who have waited one year or longer:

“I spoke with VA Secretary Eric Shinseki this morning to discuss this important initiative. I am pleased that the VA will provide veterans in Nevada the benefits that they have waited far too long to receive. Similarly, in the coming weeks, I will introduce the “Pay As You Rate Act,” which will require the VA to pay benefits to veterans as individual components of their claims are adjudicated. Currently, the VA waits for the entire claim to be reviewed and processed before they receive any benefits. The average claim from an Iraq and Afghanistan veterans contains 8.5 components. My legislation will ensure our nation’s heroes receive at least part of their benefits in a timely fashion.”
