Las Vegas, NV – Congresswoman Dina Titus of Nevada’s First District released the following statement in recognition of Veterans Day, observed on Tuesday, November 11:
“Nevada’s heroes have played a critical role in service to our nation. While we can never fully repay our veterans for their service and sacrifice, we can do more to help these heroes regain a foothold in civilian life through access to education, good jobs, and more effective post-service care. As a member of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, I have sought to give all veterans and their families those opportunities. I am pleased that the VA reform agreement signed into law this August includes three of my bills: the Underserved Veterans Access to Health Care Act to address the shortage of physicians at VA facilities; the Military Sexual Assault Parity Act to extend counseling and treatment to members of the National Guard and other reserve components who suffer sexual trauma while on a required training mission; and the Spouses of Heroes Education Act to give military spouses access to the same benefits the children of a fallen veteran are entitled to.
“Today, Veterans Day, is a day to honor and show gratitude to the men and women who have served our nation in uniform. So join me in taking a moment today to reflect on that special family member or friend or stranger who has answered the call of our nation and served in defense of our flag, and tell him or her, ‘Thank you for your service.’”
