Titus Urges Governor to Immediately Address Canceled Policies

Press Release

November 19, 2013

Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Dina Titus of Nevada’s First District sent a letter to Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval today urging him to make a decision as quickly as possible in response to President Obama’s one year extension of health insurance policies that do not meet the minimum requirements of the Affordable Care Act.
A copy of the letter can be read here:
Dear Governor Sandoval:
On November 14, 2013, President Obama announced that insurance companies will be able to offer renewals of their current policies to existing customers without adopting the 2014 market rule changes.  State governments, however, have been given the power to decide whether or not to implement this order in their states.
I urge you to decide quickly whether or not Nevada will move to implement the President’s order.  More than 92,000 Nevadans purchase insurance in the individual market, and it has been reported that 24,623 of them have received cancellation notices from their insurance companies.  While many will be able to find more affordable, comprehensive insurance coverage on the Silver State Exchange, it is important for these families to know as soon as possible what their options will be for the coming year.
I am committed to ensuring that all Nevadans have access to affordable, reliable, quality medical care.  If I can be of assistance during this process, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Dina Titus
Member of Congress
