Washington, DC – Today Congresswoman Dina Titus (NV-01), a senior member of the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee, announced that the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTCSNV) will receive a $5.86 million grant to support the planning of a 17-mile, high-capacity transit line along Charleston Boulevard between Pavilion Center Drive in Summerlin and Nellis Boulevard in East Las Vegas.
This grant from the federal Department of Transportation (DOT) is funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that Rep. Titus championed and helped pass in the U.S. House. In February 2023, Rep. Titus joined her Democratic colleagues in Nevada’s congressional delegation in a letter to Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg supporting the Regional Transportation of Southern Nevada’s request for the grant.
“The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law I helped pass in the House continues to deliver for Southern Nevada, this time through funding for a high-capacity transit line along Charleston Boulevard. Continuing to invest in mass transit will accommodate more roadway users, help make District One easier to navigate, and better connect historically underserved communities,” said Rep. Titus. “It will help more people in District One get to work, to school, to the medical corridor, and to play safer, faster, and cheaper.”
Rep. Titus has pushed for funding for Las Vegas’s transit infrastructure as a member of the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee, including more than $60 million in formula funding announced earlier this year.
This funding comes from DOT’s Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) discretionary grant program for 2023. According to DOT, this popular program helps communities around the country carry out projects with significant local or regional impact. RAISE discretionary funds help grantees at the State and local levels, including municipalities, Tribal governments, counties, and others complete critical freight and passenger transportation infrastructure projects. The eligibility requirements of RAISE allow project sponsors to obtain funding for projects that are harder to support through other U.S. DOT grant programs.
